Artaud’s Spurt of Blood

As the final piece for my BA in Design for Performance at Central Saint Martins in 2005, I presented an excerpt of Antonin Artaud’s The Spurt of Blood at London’s Cochrane Theatre. The piece used falling water and controlled aerial drops, both in close proximity to a live audience. I made full use of my past experience and networks as a circus performer to deliver the piece. I was mentored for the project by performance artist Franko B, with custom rigging devised in collaboration with Alex Harvey of Ockham’s Razor.

The design of The Spurt of Blood became technical theatre teaching material for subsequent students at CSM.
